William “Bill” Baker, of Springfield, MO, passed away on January 1, 2019, surrounded by loved ones at Mercy hospital.
William is survived by his four daughters, Penny Baker of Aurora, MO, Elizabeth Troutman of Springfield, MO, Lauren Baker of Republic, MO, and Celina Helsel of Marshall, AR; three son-in-laws, Jason Baker, Michael Troutman, and Tristan Helsel; and five grandchildren, Zachary Baker, 19, Taylor Baker, 15, Jacob Frecks, 11, Kayden Baker, 8, and Lorelai Troutman, 1.
William was born in Lebanon, MO, on June 24, 1951 to Burnett and Betty Baker. He graduated from Southwest Missouri State University with a degree in Communication. He worked at Mexican Villa as a kitchen manager up until illness took over in March of 2018 where he retired soon after. William was in the Army as well as the National Guard working on aircraft. He was a proud Veteran of the Vietnam War where he served two tours and earned many accolades.
William was a devoted father and grandfather. There was nothing more important to him than his daughters and grandchildren. He enjoyed cooking, eating, learning new things, flirting with the ladies, shopping, writing, dreaming big, Christmas, films, theatre, and spending time with his family. He was the most compassionate, patient, and fun-loving man a person would be blessed to meet. He would give you the shirt off his back and do just about anything to make someone smile. His proudest achievement was his daughters and the families and lives they have built. He was a spiritual man that looked forward to the day he could meet “Dad” as he referred to God and ask Him lots of questions. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
A celebration of life is scheduled from 12:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. on January 12, 2019 at the Northview Center at 301 E. Talmage in Springfield, MO. Flowers, donations and condolences may be offered directly to his daughters.
